Rust Disease
Identifying markers:
- Irregular patches of thinning grass, blades start to develop yellow spots that turn rust colour.
- Spots develop into orange-red pustules that cover the grass blades and can easily transfer onto boots, tools and mowers.
- It affects mainly perennial rye grass and smooth stalked meadow grass. Occasionally fescues and bent grass can be affected.
- prolonged wet warm weather and poor soil nutrient levels provides ideal conditions for rust disease to take hold.
