Red Thread Disease

Red Thread

Identifying markers:

  • Red or bleached looking patches appear as grass dies from the tips.
  • Red threads bind leaves together.
  • Cool and wet climate weather conditions can trigger an outbreak.
  • Poor soil nutrient levels, compacted soil, too much shade and excessive thatch can worsen the spread of disease.
  • Fescues and perennial rye grass are the most susceptible to red thread disease.
