Fairy Rings
Identifying Markers:
- Fairy rings are a colony of fungi that cause a circular ring of dead grass and/or toadstools.
- Fairy ring fungi colonises the thatch layer in the lawn this causes it to dry out as the fungi layer causes it to resist water. As the fungi spreads into the plants then they also resist water and die off due to drought conditions.
- Grass leaves tend to turn yellow, wilt and die.
- Sometimes the grass adjacent to the dead grass ring is more lush and dark green in colour.
- Can affect all grass species.
